Discover the mesmerising art of marbling on paper and fabric in this one-day workshop, where you’ll have a fun day of experimentation and create your own truly unique designs.
Marbling is an ancient art form that involves floating and manipulating paints on a thickened liquid surface to create stunning patterns which are then transferred onto materials, traditionally silk or paper. It is an addictive and satisfying process and very meditative!
During this hands-on workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of marbling – including setting up the marbling bath, selection and preparation of inks, and various fascinating techniques – through guided demonstrations and individual practice.
A wide range of colours will be available for you to experiment with different methods of application, putting you in control of the results. Your creations will be guided by your own tastes – from bright groovy flowers to muted pastel waves. You have the day to experiment and play, and Shona will be on hand all day with expert advice on how to achieve your desired result, or to just play and see what happens!
By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained a solid understanding of the craft, and will have produced their own collection of marbled papers and fabrics, ready to incorporate into their artistic projects or simply admire as beautiful works of art.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking to expand your skills, this workshop offers a playful and immersive exploration into the world of marbling.
- All tools and materials for your marbling on paper and fabric workshop are included in the course cost, but you are welcome to bring your own materials to try marbling on
- Tea and coffee are provided but participants should bring their own lunch and utensils
- All of our classes are suitable for over 16s, younger crafters may be accommodated if accompanied by a participating adult but please contact us before booking

- All of our workshops are held at our accessible workshop at Craft Central, High Street, Dunblane, FK15 0EE.
