Learn the ancient art of marbling on paper and fabric in this one-day workshop, and have a fun filled day of exploration into colour, texture and meditative pattern making.
Shona will guide you through various traditional techniques using a specially prepared thickened water bath and colourful acrylic inks. She’ll then encourage you to play and experiment to achieve unique designs using Shona’s selection of handmade specialty tools. Marbling is an addictive and satisfying process and very meditative!
During this hands-on workshop, Shona will show you the fundamentals of marbling – including setting up the marbling bath, selection and preparation of inks, and various fascinating techniques. We’ll work together through guided demonstrations and experiment with individual practice. We have a variety of high quality papers and fabric pieces on hand, perfect for incorporating into your future crafting projects.
A wide range of colours will be available for you to experiment with different methods of application, putting you in control of the results. Your creations will be guided by your own tastes – from bright groovy flowers to muted pastel waves. You have the day to experiment and play, and Shona will be on hand all day with expert advice on how to achieve your desired result, or to just play and see what happens! Shona facilitates an open, free and fun class which allows participants to follow their own desires for experimentation and outcomes with the high quality materials provided.
By the end of the workshop, you will have gained a solid understanding of the craft, and will have produced a collection of marbled papers and fabrics, ready to incorporate into your artistic projects or simply admire as beautiful works of art. Your marbled materials can be used as crafting papers, collage materials, wrapping papers, for book binding or scrapbooking, sewing projects… there are so many possibilities! Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking to expand your skills, this workshop offers a playful and immersive exploration into the world of marbling.
- All tools and materials for your marbling on paper and fabric workshop are included in the course cost, but you are welcome to bring your own materials to try marbling on
- Tea and coffee are provided but participants should bring their own lunch and utensils
- All of our classes are suitable for over 16s, younger crafters may be accommodated if accompanied by a participating adult but please contact us before booking

- All of our workshops are held at our accessible workshop at Craft Central, High Street, Dunblane, FK15 0EE.
