Spend a day constructing your own hardback fabric covered book with exposed spines and decorative stitching. Our resident Bookbinder Cass Barron will take you through the process step-by-step with lots of ideas on how to incorporate remnant fabric, leather or pleather, decorative papers, beads, buttons, threads and ribbons into your book to give it it’s own unique style.
A selection of materials will be provided but if you have some fabric or decorative papers that you are keen to work with, please bring them along.
This style of book makes for a great sketchbook or journal with lots of opportunity to personalise, so they make great gifts too! In the workshop you will make an A6 landscape book – Cass will share advice and follow up info on how to scale up and down should you wish to make more books of different shapes and sizes at home.
All materials are included, which comprise of remnant leather/pleather, coloured threads, buttons, decorative and vintage papers, plus Cass’s go-to Flat White plain paper – made from recycled coffee cups and great for sketching, watercolour and general note-taking . In addition to this you are welcome to bring along any of your own materials to see how these can be worked into your books, such as old maps, artwork, test prints, wallpaper, wrapping paper etc.
